Catrina Boncaldo: Interning at Hollywood

Oh boy, 2020 has been a year full of uncertainties and surprises! After learning that my last semester of college would be virtual, participating in a virtual college graduation ceremony, and having my summer internship canceled, I started to lose hope. I needed to be productive and make the most out of my time. I was determined to find a fall internship, and I wasn’t going to give up until I did. I came across Hollywood Agency, but saw no formal internship on its website. I had nothing to lose, so I reached out and the rest is history. 2020 started to look up.

Before this internship I had no prior experience in PR, but was ready to learn anything and everything. Luckily for me, I started learning from an amazing group of seasoned PR professionals, who were as excited as I was for me to learn and grow as an intern. There has never been a time where I’ve felt like I was doing someone else’s busywork; instead I’ve felt trusted and relied upon to do real and valuable work. Every task or project I’m given allows me to expand my skillset and experience different aspects of communications. Whether it be media, influencer or client relations, everything I’ve learned will serve me well no matter what career path I choose.

When it comes to culture and community, Hollywood is killing it. I never realized the importance of company culture before this internship, especially in the world we are living in right now. As an intern, I have never once felt like my voice wasn’t heard or my opinions not valued. Although Holly is my supervisor, it always feels like we are working together as a team. When it comes to finding a position outside of my internship, everyone has truly been amazing, and willing to help in any way possible.

No two days are the same at Hollywood Agency, and that’s what makes it fun to come into the office each day. One day you might come in to find Houston (Darlene’s adorable puppy) running around the office, and another you could be greeted by a Halloween goodie bag and mini pumpkin waiting for you on your desk. But the highlight of my internship had to be the annual Hollywood Agency Holiday Card shoot… which was definitely a unique experience. All the events of that day were so fun, and really gave me a chance to get to know everyone a little better. I can’t give away too much, but let me just say if any innocent bystander walked into the office that day, they would have left very confused.

If you’ve ever thought about interning at Hollywood Agency or are looking to have the best internship experience possible, look no further. I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. From the relationships and the network I have built, to the important lessons and valuable hands-on experience I have gained, I can confidently walk away from this internship with the skillset and knowledge needed to succeed as a young professional. I am sure that one day I will find my way back to Hollywood Agency.
