Position Overview 
The senior account executive (SAE) is the day-to-day account contact for the client and team, serving as a project manager, communicator, and practitioner. In this role, the individual will have fully developed media relations and project management skills and will be expected to further develop those skills needed to effectively manage accounts independently or with minimal oversight from a senior manager. Accounts will vary in industry across B2B, consumer, and not-for-profit sectors. This position is considered hybrid.  
 
Expectations for a SAE 

  • An excellent communicator with strong, error-proof writing and editing skills for internal and external communications, and a creative flair for producing engaging copy 

  • Excellent media relations skills with relevant media; a proven track record of successful media campaigns 

  • A master multi-tasker with the ability to effectively manage accounts and individuals simultaneously and independently   

  • An active participant in internal and external meetings 

  • The confidence, judgment, and ability to address and solve problems independently or with minimal oversight/support 

  • Strong attention to detail 

  • Demonstrate initiative, leadership skills, and strong work ethic 

  • Ability to simultaneously support up to five client accounts, with a 90% billable target 

 
Overall Responsibilities 
There will be some client accounts on which the SAE will support a manager or Vice President. Below are general responsibilities for overseeing client teams and/or special projects on larger accounts with senior team member oversight. 

 

  • Successful project management of daily account activity with minimal supervision and guidance 

  • Develop strong and productive relationships with the client 

  • May manage specific projects independently 

  • Play a lead role in running client calls, either entirely or with senior support 

  • Support senior team members in developing a plan by participating in and contributing to the strategic and tactical planning process; drive implementation of the plan with junior staff 

  • Serve as a mentor and leader for junior colleagues and interns 

  • Develop and lead weekly and monthly reporting to the client 

  • Delegate work appropriately and within team members’ budgeted hours 

  • Address challenges effectively, thoughtfully, strategically, and promptly 

  • Ensure team members are meeting internal client and agency deadlines 

  • Meet or exceed all deadlines and ensure junior team members follow suit 

 
Media Relations Responsibilities 

  • Oversee the development of comprehensive and strategic media relations plans with minimal guidance from senior team members 

  • Manage implementation of the outreach plan among the client team 

  • Write strategic, compelling, and error-free press releases, pitches, and client memos 

  • Independently produce high-impact results that deliver upon goals as identified by managers and clients; the ability to capture major/national media attention 

  • Mentor AEs and AAEs by helping to identify opportunities, formulate pitches, and place client coverage 

 
Digital Responsibilities 

  • Basic digital marketing knowledge (influencer relations, organic social media)  

  • Oversee and play a clear leadership role in the development of campaigns 

  • Prepare the first draft or manage team members’ content curation, including calendar development and copy editing 

 
Requirements 

  • BA/BS in communications/marketing/public relations/integrated marketing/journalism or related field 

  • Four to eight years of comparable agency or corporate experience
