Stop & Shop Declares June 3rd As First-Ever National Chicken Salad Day

On June 3, 2026, Stop & Shop declared the first-ever National Chicken Salad Day. The day honors the dish that originated in 1863 at a deli in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Chicken salad remains a staple in Stop & Shop’s delis, where it is made fresh daily with rotisserie chicken, the perfect amount of creamy Hellmann’s mayonnaise, crisp celery, and flavorful seasonings that make it a favorite among local customers.

To celebrate the holiday, Stop & Shop launched a statewide Rhode Island “Originals” Tour to honor the hard-working people of Rhode Island, with stops at the Washington Bridge Construction Staging Site, the Providence Public Safety Complex, Confreda Greenhouses & Farms, and South Kingstown Town Hall.

The day also pays homage to the Ocean State’s distinct culinary culture. Home to stuffies, johnnycakes, pizza strips, hot wieners, and coffee milk, Rhode Island can now officially add chicken salad to the list of its local specialties.
